Calling all food gardeners! Mark your calendars and be prepared to green your thumbs!

In collaboration with several local non-profit organizations, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, North Slave Region, is pleased to welcome the public to four upcoming agriculture events:

  • North of 60 Gardening Workshop with Dr. Seefeldt – Sunday, October 23 from 1:00-4:30pm at the Museum Auditorium – hosted by Yellowknife Community Garden Collective
     
  • Film Screening: “Seed: The Untold Story” with Internationally renowned speaker, Winona LaDuke – Monday, October 24 from 7:00 – 10:00pm at the Museum Auditorium – Hosted by Ecology North and Northern Farm Training Institute
     
  • Public Talk with Winona Laduke: Food Sovereignty and Self-Determination – Tuesday, October 25 from 7:00 – 9:30pm at Northern United Place – hosted by Dechinta Bush University, Dene Nahjo and the Yellowknives Dene First Nation
     
  • YK Food Matters: A Pecha Kucha Night – Thursday, October 27 from 7:00 – 10:00pm at the Museum Auditorium – hosted by Yellowknife Farmers Market

Agriculture in the Northwest Territories is in an exciting new developmental stage and is fast becoming a stronger part of the economic sector. Ranging from small community gardens to commercial greenhouses, regulated egg production and harvesting of “wild” edibles, the local food production sector has grown dramatically, especially over the last three years.

All sessions are free to the public and no registration is required. The event poster can be viewed below.
