The first industry events and screenings will hit venues across the capital city as the 10th edition of Yellowknife International Film Festival (YKIFF) begins today.

Six Northwest Territories (NWT)-produced films will be featured in this year's edition, including The Sun at Midnight — the first entirely homegrown NWT film to access the Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) new Film Rebate Program.

Alongside the screenings, this year's program includes workshops, demonstrations, and speaking engagements designed to increase capacity in marketing, distribution, and production.

The festival is organized and administered by Western Arctic Moving Pictures — long-time leaders and ambassadors for the NWT film industry.

The GNWT is a proud presenting sponsor of YKIFF through its Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI). Funding is administered through the department's NWT Film Commission division.

The workshops, demonstrations, screening opportunities, and speaking engagement will help develop the skills and competencies of NWT film producers, increase the NWT film industry's profile, and build marketing capacity for NWT film productions.

The festival runs September 28-October 2.
