Yet another agriculture initiative is bringing new opportunities to youth in Yellowknife this growing season.

A growing plot at Community Garden Site #1 has been set aside for a children’s gardening workshop in the second-week of August.

The initiative is led by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s North Slave agriculture team as part of the department’s mandate to support economic diversification and small-scale agriculture capacity.

There has been produce grown in the plot throughout the summer as part of demonstrations for the GROW Together workshops led by the same team.

During the youth gardening workshop in August, much of the produce will be used by the nearly-200 children rotating through the workshop, but the agriculture team has also agreed to donate any leftovers to local non-profit societies.

Local food and philanthropy — what better combination could there be!
