The NWT Film Commission continued to promote the NWT’s spectacular locations and vibrant film industry at a major media festival this week.
This came with participation in the Banff World Media Festival — a conference bringing together producers and professionals from across the business side of the film industry.
Film Commissioner Camilla MacEachern of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment was on-hand with a full-slate of meetings and engagements aimed at attracting guest producers to film in the NWT.
The Film Commission also actively supported local producer Kirsten Carthew — best known for her hit local production The Sun At Midnight — in pitching projects to shoot in the NWT with support from larger production companies.

“The film industry is all about relationship building,” explains McEachern. “That’s why we get out there as much as possible — to put a positive face on NWT film as a whole, and help our local producers foster the right connections.”
The NWT Film Commission is the primary promoter of, and service provider to, the NWT’s growing film industry.
With more and more success stories arising in the sector, it’s clear the efforts are working. “Our goal is to see more local and guest productions every year; and to empower our local industry with the skills and experience they need to be a part of these productions ,” MacEachern says.
“With that will come more opportunities for our local producers to make a living in the media industry and greater strength and diversity for the NWT economy overall.”
