The spotlight turned to NWT businesses yesterday as the push for increased tourism continued in China.

The focus was business-to-business meetings. The goal: inking business deals with major players in the travel trade market in China.

Four NWT businesses are directly invested in the overall mission and have met with over one hundred potential strategic partners in “match-making” sessions held during stops in Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.

The NWT businesses taking part are well-known in the territory’s thriving tourism sector: Blachford Lake Lodge, Yellowknife Tours, Aurora Village, and Tundra North Tours.

NWT Tourism — the GNWT’s destination marketing organization — is in China to support the NWT businesses and build bridges to benefit other operators across the territory.

The sessions came as part of the NWT’s participation in the Canada-China Tourism Mission led by federal Minister of Small Business and Tourism Bardish Chagger.

The effort marks the Canada-China Year of Tourism — a year-long push to celebrate and strengthen the relationship between Canada and China’s tourism markets.

The mission continues through June 28.
