South Slave Businesses and Entrepreneurs Hone Their Skills

March is a busy month for entrepreneurs and business owners in the Northwest Territories (NWT) taking advantage of training opportunities offered by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI).

Several courses were offered and took place in communities throughout the South Slave Region, including:

  • Introduction to Quick Books: a three day course where participants learn about tracking business information and how to enter that information
  • How to Read and Understand Financial Statements: a two-day course that reviews basic financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and supporting documents to give business owners a thorough understanding of the information they contain. The course was offered by ITI in partnership with Aurora College.
  • How to Set Up and Run a Small Business: this course covers the basics of setting up and running a small business, including reading financial statements, preparing tax return forms, payroll tax, GST remittance, and other important small business basics.
