There are tons of activities taking place throughout the territory in celebration of National Tourism Week, May 29 – June 2. Here are a few of the fun, free events that you can take part in! Contact your Regional ITI Office for more information.

Sahtu Region

  • Norman Wells: Community BBQ hosted at the Norman Wells Heritage Centre on Wednesday, May 31: 5:00pm – 7:00pm
    • 4th annual tourism week BBQ (trout from Great Bear Lake, burgers, sausages, salads, cake)
    • Co-hosted by Norman Wells Historical Society (NWHS will hold a sale in their gift shop during the event)
    • Prize draws (1st $500 gift certificate to the Norman wells Historical Society gift shop, 2nd $150 gift certificate from Sahtu Gardens, 3rd $100 from Norman Wells Transportation)

North Slave Region

  • Take part in the Be a Tourist in Your Own Town promotion (click here to learn more)

Beaufort Delta Region

  • Inuvik:
    • May 29 – June 1: 5:30pm-6:00pm daily: Take a free tour of the Inuvik Community Greenhouse
    • May 31: 1:00pm-5:00pm Tourism and Parks Open House at the Western Arctic Regional Visitor Centre. Bannock, tea and campfire await!
    • June 1: 7:00pm – 9:00pm Aurora Research Institute screening of “COLD AMAZON” film (22 minutes long)
    • June 2: 4:00pm – 5:00pm free tour of the Aurora Research Institute
    • June 2, 10:00am-9:00pm; June 3, 9:00am-5:00pm, 7:00pm-9:00pm: Arctic Image Festival – take part in workshops or browse the gallery
    • June 5: Inuvialuit Day

South Slave Region

  • Fort Smith:
    • May 31: 6:00pm – 8:00 pm Queen Elizabeth Bannock and Tea at Queen Elizabeth Park – come enjoy tea, bannock, and jam

Dehcho Region

  • Fort Simpson:
    • May 31: Wednesday (TBD) Community BBQ at the Fort Simpson Visitor Centre (Note: other Tourism Week events are being planned. Contact the Visitor Centre at 867-695-3182 for the details.
    • June 3: Sunday – 12:00pm-1:00pm Lunch time Barbecue Mixer – Hosted by the Visitor Information Centre at the Seven Spruce Golf Course
    • June 3: Sunday – 1:00pm-5:00pm "Best Ball" Visitor-Resident Golf Tournament - Hosted by the Visitor Information Centre and Seven Spruce Golf Club at the Seven Spruce Golf Course
