The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s Energy Planning Division co-ordinates overall energy policy and planning for the Government of the Northwest Territories.

The GNWT encourages and supports the development of the NWT’s energy resources in a manner that will benefit northern residents and governments, and maintains a strong commitment to the Territories' natural environment.

The Government’s energy development strategy: Energy for the Future, is closely linked to the NWT Greenhouse Gas Strategy.
