Agriculture, fisheries, trapping and commercial game harvesting generate income and employment for Northwest Territories residents by producing products and services consumed in the domestic and export markets.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment aims to improve local traditional economies and provide residents with the opportunity to pursue traditional livelihoods - the benefits of which are often measured in non-economic values.

The Department works with the Fresh Water Fish Marketing Corporation (FFMC) to promote international markets for Northwest Territories fish products in order to increase fish trade and returns to fishers and the Great Slave Lake fishery.

Strong Prices for NWT Fur

Sales results from NWT-fur sales totalled $822,000 (up slightly from last year) at the February 18th auction of Fur Harvesters Auctions Incorporated and American Legend.
