Trapper Recognition Program

As part of a continuing program to build and strengthen the production and capacity in the trapping industry, the Department of Industry Tourism and Investment administers an awards program.

In each case, winners are given a certificate signed by the Minister and a jacket bearing the logo of the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur Program.

The following awards are given annually:  

The Top Producer Award (high sales values) recognizes the top producer in each of the five regions.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the oldest trappers who are or recently have been active in the trapping industry.

The Youth Trapper Award recognizes the youngest active trapper in each region.

The Top Youth Trapper NWT Award recognizes the most productive of the youth trapper award recipients. (This award includes a trip to Fur Harvesters Auction to partake in a fur auction.)
