Western Harvesters Assistance Program (WHAP)

One-time contributions are available through the Western Harvesters Assistance Program to local and regional Aboriginal organizations to assist and promote renewable resource harvesting.

These funds are allocated based on the number of General Hunting Licence holders in each community. Organizations recognized as representing the interests of these licence holders can make applications for funding.

Contributions provided under the Western Harvesters Assistance Program cannot be used for administrative purposes and are available only upon approval from the GNWT’s Legislative Assembly.

Eligible organizations must establish the required administrative structure and demonstrate how the program will assist and promote the renewable resource harvesting economy in their community.

Regional Programs and Services of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment are delivered through offices in: Yellowknife (North Slave), Fort Smith (South Slave), Norman Wells (Sahtu), Fort Simpson (Dehcho) or Inuvik (Inuvik).
