MOU on Northern Mining Workforce

(November 27, 2008) - A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Northwest Territories (NWT) three diamond mines has been established to further the development and retention of a diamond mining workforce in the NWT.

Harvester Grubstakes signal beginning of Trapping Season

(September 30, 2008) - Grubstake cheques totaling $117,470 have been sent to eligible Northwest Territories (NWT) fur harvesters in advance of the 2008-09 trapping season. These payments are an important component of the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) support to the traditional economy and provide trappers with funds to defray a portion of their start up costs for the upcoming season.

Traditional Skills Strengthen Cultural Links for Youth

(June 3, 2008) - Over 100 students from the Kalemi Dene School in N’dilo and the Kaw Tay Whee School in Dettah are learning and applying traditional life skills over the next two weeks in a Government of the Northwest Territories sponsored Traditional Skills Education Project.

Northwest Territories Fur Industry Takes Centre Stage

(April 29, 2008) – Speaking at the opening of the 2008 North American Fur Fair and Exhibition in Montreal, the Honourable Bob McLeod, Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Investment, endorsed the proud history of the Northwest Territories (NWT) trapping community and Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) support programs built on the time-honoured practices of passing on traditional skills and knowledge to the youth.
