The Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Office in Hay River coordinates the Government of the Northwest Territories’ planning and response to the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project – one of the largest energy projects ever proposed in Canada.
Five companies, Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited, Shell Canada Limited, ConocoPhillips Canada Limited, ExxonMobil, and the Aboriginal Pipeline Group are proposing to develop three natural gas anchor fields in the NWT’s Mackenzie Delta region north of Inuvik.
Implicit in the proposed project are future gas developments in the Mackenzie Delta and Valley, gathering lines, processing facilities and a 1,220-kilometre pipeline through the Mackenzie Valley to connect to existing pipeline systems in Alberta.
The Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Office also manages funding programs to help NWT residents, Aboriginal groups and communities meet the opportunities and challenges that the Mackenzie Gas Project will provide.
The Northern Gas Project Secretariat was established to assist in the environmental assessment and regulatory review of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project and maintains a public registry of documents submitted to the various panels during the review process.
