Information about Tourism & Parks

Tourism is an important part of the NWT economy and generates more revenue today than all other renewable resource industries combined. In 2010-2011 more than 69,830 travellers visited the NWT.  Read more tourism facts

Within the 1.17 million square kilometres of NWT land are a multitude of beautiful parks and campgrounds.  Read more.    

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment provides resources and support to the NWT Tourism Industry for tourism marketing, research, training and product development through the Tourism and Parks Division. Tourism and Parks is also responsible for developing, operating and maintaining facilities that include parks, visitor centres and interpretive displays. 

Tourism 2015: New Directions for a Spectacular Future outlines the investment and steps that the GNWT will follow to develop and expand the tourism industry in the Northwest Territories.

Tourism and Parks Programs are delivered through ITI regional offices in: Yellowknife (North Slave), Fort Smith (South Slave), Norman Wells (Sahtu), Fort Simpson (Dehcho) and Inuvik (Inuvik).
