Blackstone Territorial Park is located on the Liard River, downstream from the confluence of the South Nahanni River with the Liard River, 166km south of Fort Simpson, and 115km north of Fort Liard. The Blackstone River joins the Liard River from the east, just upstream from the Park, and is accessible from the Liard Highway.

Blackstone Territorial Park is a popular staging point for canoeists and rafters passing through Nahanni National Park Reserve, offering a campsite with full shower facilities, and a readily identifiable location to arrange for after-trip pickup.

Attractions & Points of Interest:

Blackstone is one of the parks located on both the Liard Trail and the Deh Cho Travel Connection, the tour routes that take in the unique communities and sights of two provinces and the Northwest Territories.

Blackstone Park has its own Visitor Information Centre, worth a visit if you are stopping at or passing by the park. The centre is open during the same time period as the park, seven days a week. The next nearest visitor centres are in Fort Liard, which is approximately 115 km to the south, and in Fort Simpson, which is approximately 166 km to the north.

The next nearest NWT parks with camping facilities are the Fort Simpson Territorial Park 166 km to the north, and Sambaa Deh Falls Park about 195 km to the east on Highway 1.

The principle attractions are the Liard, Blackstone and Nahanni Rivers, and the Nahanni Range.

Golf Course - nearest is in Fort Simpson. Nearest Gasoline Service to the South is in Fort Liard, to the North is in Ft. Simpson Nearest Grocery Service is in Fort Liard

Fort Simpson is 166 km to the north.

Fort Liard is 115 km to the south.

Nahanni Butte is only accessible by boat or plane in the summer, but is connected by road and ice bridge in the winter.

 
Operational Season:

Blackstone Territorial Park is open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, from May 15th to September 15th. Trails within the park may be accessible on foot outside of those dates, but they will not be maintained clear of snow, and so you enter at your own risk. Services such as toilets and garbage removal are not provided outside the open season.
