Fort Simpson Territorial Park and Campground is located where the Mackenzie and Liard Rivers merge, next to the Papal Site, where Pope John Paul II visited in 1987, at the entrance to the village of Fort Simpson. It is surrounded by a wetland ecosystem known as the Snye. Many species of migratory waterfowl may be seen there in season, including tundra swans and snow geese. |

| Attractions & Points of Interest: |
The campsite is adjacent to the Fort Simpson Visitor Information Centre, worth a visit for the wealth of displays. Furthermore, the park is within walking distance of most services offered in Fort Simpson. Fort Simpson is the gateway to Nahanni National Park and its spectacular Virginia Falls; and to the fascinating dry karst limestone scenery of the nearby Ram Plateau. A community trail around the perimeter of the community of Fort Simpson links several historic sites, and is readily accessible from the campsite. The trail winds its way around the golf course and allows for excellent opportunities for observing nature that includes a variety of animals, birds, reptiles and plants. The next nearest NWT parks with camping facilities are at the Sambaa Deh Falls Park, on the Mackenzie Highway about 70 Km to the east. |
