Hay River Territorial park is located on Vale Island, in the community of Hay River. The park's beach on the shore of Great Slave Lake is a great summer attraction for both day users and campers. The beach is equipped with playground equipment for the kids, volleyball nets, and a modern picnic shelter with BBQ woodstove. In the summer, a concession operator offers snacks & refreshments from the beach parking lot. |

In the evenings, campers can get together in the park reception building for stories and songs around the woodstove. The park's buildings have a 'nautical' theme, fitting in with the community's role as a barge 'port' for the entire Mackenzie River system. That includes the communities of Great Slave Lake, and down river all the way to the Beaufort Sea in the Western Arctic. You can catch a glimpse of the barges, the tugboats, and the bright red & white Canadian Coastguard vessels that ply the lake, river, & ocean, alongside the approach road into the park. |
