Nitainlaii Territorial Park is located on the Dempster Highway: your route to the Arctic Ocean, and beyond.

It is perched on a cliff overlooking the Peel River, surrounded by a large stand of white birch and white spruce trees. This is a very peaceful place to spend a night or two.

Attractions & Points of Interest:

Nitainlaii Park has its own Visitor Information Centre. It provides a fascinating glimpse of the traditional life of the Gwich'in Dene, past & present, interpreted by a long time resident of the area.

Nearby attraction is the Fort McPherson Tent & Canvas Workshop.

The next nearest visitor information centre is the Western Arctic Regional Visitor Centre in Inuvik. It is well worth a visit for the displays about the whole western Arctic region.

The next nearest NWT park with camping facilities is located at Vadzaih Van Tshik Campground,173 Km to the south of Inuvik on the Dempster Highway, within Gwich'in Territorial Park. Peel River ferry crossing is 2km to the south.

Golf Course - nearest in Inuvik. Nearest Gasoline Service is in Fort McPherson. Nearest Grocery Service is in Fort McPherson. Dump Station - Nearest is at Happy Valley Park & the Fort McPherson municipality.

Nearest Communities:

Fort McPherson is 9 km to the north.

Inuvik is 194 km to the north.

Operational Season:

The Nitainlaii Park Reception building is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, from June 1st to September 1st . You can go to the staff residence in the Park if you arrive late to get a camping permit, or you can park in the site, and the Parks personnel will sell you the ticket in the morning, when they do their rounds.

Trails within the park may be accessible on foot outside of the 'open' dates, but they will not be maintained clear of snow, and so you enter at your own risk. Services such as toilets and garbage removal are not provided outside the open season.
