Tetlit Gwinjik Territorial Park

View of the Mackenzie Delta
The Mackenzie River delta is vast, and still growing

Tetlit Gwinjik Territorial Park is located on the Dempster Highway, your route to the Arctic Ocean, and beyond.

Nestled on the north-facing slope of the Peel River Plateau, this interpretive lookout gives a panoramic view that encompasses the Richardson Mountains, the Mackenzie Delta, and the community of Fort McPherson on the banks of the Peel River. From this point north, you are entering the delta country of the Mackenzie River.

Attractions & Points of Interest:

The nearest visitor information centre is the Nitainlaii Visitor Centre just south of Fort McPherson, which provides a fascinating glimpse of the life of the Gwich'in Dene, past & present. The Western Arctic Regional Visitor Centre in Inuvik is also well worth a visit, for the displays about the whole western Arctic region.

Nitainlaii Territorial Park & Campground is only another 5 km north from here; the community of Fort McPherson 14 km. The Northwest Territories/Yukon Border Crossing is 71 km to the south - remember to stop at the border, & have your picture taken to show your friends that you made it over the Arctic Circle, into the Northwest Territories, and above the Tree line.
