A delegation from Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) represented NWT’s interests at the 20th Annual China Mining Congress and Expo in Tianjin.

One of the largest global resource conferences, the event regularly draws 10,000+ delegates from more than 50 countries and regions with expertise spanning the full range of production — from staking to sales and everything in-between.

The event presented an opportunity for the NWT to strengthen the NWT’s profile and presence in the Chinese market, and continue fostering relationships with key players in the country’s unique resource business landscape.

Collaboration with partners across Canada led to a Canada Investment Pavillion at the event — further boosting the NWT’s opportunity to interact with the right people.

This trip also included several other opportunities to up the NWT’s profile. The delegation attended investment forums in Beijing and Shanghai, and took several meetings outside these events with financiers, explorers, and developers.

This is the latest example of how ITI is telling the NWT’s story of incredible resource potential, world-leading indigenous participation, public support and political stability to audiences with the knowledge and capital to get projects going in the NWT.

“We’re fortunate to have opportunities and potential across a lot of different commodities, and a history of getting responsible projects up-and-running” explains ITI’s Director of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Menzie McEachern. “We had the chance to plant that seed in a lot of minds operating in one of the largest export markets for minerals. I’d say that’s a win for the NWT.”

For more than five years, the territory has used the Unlocking our Potential brand to attract responsible explorers and developers to the NWT.

Ensuring investors see the NWT as an attractive place to invest is one of the goals of the NWT Mineral Development Strategy.
