Northwest Territories Tourism (NWT Tourism) is a not-for-profit destination marketing organization (DMO) tasked with marketing NWT tourism products. Our mission is to increase the number of visitors and visitor spending in the NWT. NWT Tourism was established in 1996 when it assumed responsibility for tourism marketing from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) department of Industry Tourism and Investment (ITI). The current organization is the latest in a line of tourism industry organizations that trace back over 50 years. A voluntary Board of Directors made up of tourism operators and government officials governs NWTT.
In 2009/2010, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) contracted NorthWays Consulting to carry out consultation with Aboriginal organizations, the tourism industry, and interested stakeholders to discuss the benefits of, and barriers to, Aboriginal tourism and to plan an Aboriginal Leadership Forum.
This paper examines the issues that people in the NWT tourism industry face in achieving the level of certification required to operate small commercial vessels, the effectiveness of the current approach, implications for the industry and the GNWT, and options for future courses of action.
During the summer of 2009 Park User Satisfaction Surveys were distributed in Territorial Parks across the NWT. The goal of the surveys was to determine the level of visitors' satisfaction with services, amenities and facilities in our Territorial Parks. This is a summary of findings from the surveys.
This report summarizes the results of the 2008 Campground Consultation project where park users completed surveys in territorial parks or online, and stakeholders were contacted to solicit feedback.
