The North Slave region is putting together some top-quality programming for you to get your green thumb on this growing season. 

Three of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s own from the Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS) division recently received national recognition for excellence in research and mentorship.

As the snow disappears and the wind begins to lose its bite, excitement is building for camping in the Northwest Territories (NWT); a fact demonstrated by explosive opening-day reservation numbers compiled last week.

Students in the Sahtu were the first in the Northwest Territories to benefit from a program aimed at educating young Canadians about mining – and its importance to maintaining quality of life.

The idea came from Frank Pope ITI’s Regional Petroleum Advisor based in Norman Wells.

“We’ve been talking oil and gas in the Sahtu for 30 years,” he says.  “I thought it was time to talk about mining – and the career opportunities that are available for youth in the NWT.”

When Pope learned about the Mining Matters Program, the plan was complete.
