Beach patrols will return to the Fed Henne Territorial Park beach beginning this Saturday, June 19, 2021. Beach attendants will be on duty seven days a week from 9:30 am – 8:30 pm until September.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment reminds you that water safety is everybody’s business.  No matter how experienced or confident you are, water can ALWAYS surprise you. The best way to ensure a fun, safe summer is to be aware, informed – and come to the beach prepared.

Caregivers are encouraged to talk with children about water safety. Identify and be aware of hazards and swimming conditions before allowing children to wade in.

Beachgoers under the age of 12 should be accompanied by someone over the age of 16. Children 7 and under should always be within arm's reach of a caregiver over the age of 16 while playing in and near water. Swimmers under 11 years of age should be accompanied by someone over the age of 16 while in the water.

New swimmers should wear a lifejacket near the water.  A lifejacket loaner station is available at the Fred Henne beach.

Just like with any outdoor activities, it is important to also stay hydrated by drinking at least half a cup of water for every half hour out in the sun and to stay protected; reapplying sunscreen every two hours.

Investments in safety are an integral part of the GNWT’s delivery of world-class parks for use by visitors and residents alike.

The staff and attendants at the Fred Henne campground and beach wish everybody a safe and happy summer.
