Work as a small business owner or entrepreneur may be never ending but that doesn’t mean you can’t find time to celebrate each other’s successes.
As it concluded a week of professional development activities and motivational events commemorating Small Business Week, the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce took time on Friday night to also recognize local businesses for their innovation, health & safety practices, community impacts, and much more.
Among the many (it was sold out) in attendance, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Caroline Wawzonek, was on hand to present the 2022 Innovation Award.
Old Town Glassworks took home the award for Innovation this year.
The Government of the Northwest Territories, through ITI’s North Slave Regional Office was a contributing sponsor to Small Business Week in Yellowknife alongside the federal governments’ Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) and the Northwest Territories Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC).
“Talented, hard-working individuals, entrepreneurs and community business owners are the strength of our local and regional economies, Minister Wawzonek said in a release. “They provide the products, services and community support that are the foundation of our local economies and enhance the quality of life in every one of our 33 communities. Through initiatives and events, business organizations like the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce provide a forum for ongoing promotion, collaboration and growth in this important sector in our territory.”
In the 2021-2022 fiscal year, ITI provided $26.1 million in financial support to 721 individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, governments, and groups across the NWT.
ITI congratulates all of the businesses nominated for awards in 2022; and salutes this year’s winners. They are:
