Louis Koob received an exceptionally warm welcome when he entered the 60th Parallel Visitor Centre on September 8.  He was the Centre’s 20,000th visitor for the 2016 season.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Koob has travelled north.  He first visited the Northwest Territories (NWT) in 1966 and recalls that only a gravel road connected Manning, Alberta to Yellowknife.  He ventured north again in 1973 to spend Christmas with his family living in the NWT.  At 86 years of age, Mr. Koob decided it was time for one last visit to Yellowknife.  He was amazed by the changes he saw and the friendliness he encountered.

Staff at the Visitor Centre snapped Mr. Koob’s photo and gave him a coffee mug to commemorate the event.

The Visitor Centre is open from May 15 to September 15 each year and welcomes a combination of tourists and NWT residents.
