The first international fur sale opportunities are approaching for NWT trappers.

January 27th was the last receiving date for the American Legens and Saga Furs Auction March 8-15 in Finland. Local Environment & Natural Resources offices helped trappers get their furs in on-time to be marketed at this auction under the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur (GMVF) brand.

Global marketing of NWT wild fur on behalf of NWT trappers through the GMVF brand is led by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment around the globe.  The Department provides “single window” access to international fur auctions, and actively promotes NWT fur at international venues through partnerships with other harvesting jurisdictions and the private sector.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources also supports the GMVF Brand with trapper training that ensures the highest quality of furs are brought to market and a range of programs designed to maximize trapper participation and benefit.

The last receiving date has been set as Sunday, April 14, 2019 for the remaining two auctions. The next auction will be held in North Bay May 24-25.

The last auction of the 2018-19 season will be held in Finland once again on June 10, 2019, where GMVF Lynx and Marten usually play a leading role.
