Federal, territorial and provincial partners agreed to a tourism declaration at today’s Canadian Council of Tourism Ministers' (CCTM) meeting in Iqaluit.

Collaborative marketing, improved access to statistics and increasing Canada’s offerings of Indigenous tourism, festivals and events were among the priorities identified.

The declaration parallels several of the pillars identified in the GNWT’s recently released Tourism 2020 plan, including Aboriginal cultural tourism and tourism research and planning.

A unified approach to tourism development and promotion is timely as Canada has experienced growth across the country this year.

The CCTM meeting was co-chaired by the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, and the Honourable Monica Ell-Kanayuk, Nunavut's Minister of Economic Development and Transportation.
