Cultural Interpretation Area Planned for MacKinnon Territorial Park

New infrastructure is planned for the Sahtu Region’s idyllic MacKinnon Territorial Park, and we want your input on the proposed plans!

 

Provide feedback through the online survey here or join ITI’s Sahtu Regional Office for a public engagement session:

  • 7:00 – 8:00pm
  • Royal Canadian Legion, Norman Wells

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

 

Discussions will be focused on the new proposed Cultural Interpretation Area and three design concepts will be presented.

Construction of the approved concept could begin as early as late July 2018, with the goal of making the Cultural Interpretation Area open for public use by late August 2018.

An Introduction to MacKinnon Territorial Park

 

For those who haven’t travelled to MacKinnon Territorial Park yet – here are a couple insights to motivate your travel bug.

 

Located in the community of Norman Wells, MacKinnon Park is a gem in the Sahtu Region. Uninterrupted views of the mighty Mackenzie River provide a stunning backdrop to your camping adventures and the park is a popular local for community gatherings and events.

 

The park has an event stage, gazebo, playground and two beautiful teepees. Other features include a greenhouse and agriculture area, walking trails and relaxing sitting areas including viewing platforms, arbors and picnic tables.
