Fort Smith will be playing host to more than white-pelicans on its rapids this weekend. Paddlefest will be taking place in the world-class whitewater again this year with paddlers of all levels participating in fun and challenging events and races. From stand-up paddleboard jousting to a beach-themed party this is the place to soak up some sun and get in the water!
The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is proud to be a sponsor of Paddlefest, which promotes tourism in the South Slave Region.
View the full Paddlefest schedule here.
The event, hosted by the Fort Smith Paddling Club, runs from August 3 - 6 and invites all sorts of paddle enthusiasts to the Slave River. Whether you prefer canoes or kayaks, paddle-boards, guided hikes or a film festival, Paddlefest has something for everyone.
Clinics are available for beginners and intermediate paddlers. If you aren’t keen on getting in the water there is an area for spectators to take in the wonders of the Slave River Rapids and watch paddlers tackle the river.
Annual events and festivals such as Paddlefest are important to inspiring tourists to travel to Northwest Territories communities and have an impact on our tourism industry. The importance of supporting economically diverse sectors is recognized in the mandate of the GNWT.
