Free Aurora Borealis Workshops for Tourism Professionals

The GNWT is sponsoring a number of workshops for tourism professionals in Yellowknife to learn the basics of aurora science, aurora forecasting, and aurora photography.

These free one-day aurora borealis information and training sessions will be led by James Pugsley, President of the Astronomy North Society and Northern Project Manager for AuroraMAX.

Participants will learn how to monitor space weather conditions, learn when and where to watch for auroras and how to respond to questions about Canada’s Northern Lights.

Several training dates are available:

  • Saturday, November 26: 10am-3pm
  • Sunday, November 27: 10am-3pm
  • Saturday, January 7, 2017: 10am-3pm
  • Sunday, January 8, 2017: 10am-3pm

All sessions will take place at the Northern Frontier Visitors Centre in Yellowknife.

This training is reserved for tourism professionals – including tour guides, operator staff, tourism organizations, visitor centre staff, hotel staff, government employees, restaurant staff, taxi companies and other hospitality sector services.

Training is provided courtesy of the Government of the Northwest Territories Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), the Astronomy North Society and the Northern Frontier Visitors Association.
