Preparing for Increase in Tourism
With the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway expected to draw more visitors to the Beaufort Delta Region there are new economic opportunities emerging within the hamlet.
Minerva Ward, ITI’s Tourism Development Officer for the Beaufort Delta explains why these workshops are a great fit for the community.
“There is a lot of excitement from travellers who want to experience the Arctic Ocean and drive along the new highway,” Minerva says. “It’s important that we’re prepared for these visitors. This includes growing tourism products, packages and tours; particularly in Indigenous cultural tourism. It also means preparing the community to be great northern ambassadors to create a welcoming experience for visitors. All of this plays an important role in growing businesses, create new jobs and increasing the dollars being spent in Tuktoyaktuk.”
