They celebrated Canada day in China on Saturday; part of this week’s China-Canada Tourism Mission. The NWT delegation hit the ground running pushing the sights and stories of the NWT to a receptive audience of travel brokers and media in Beijing.

The Canada Day event was a focal point for local celebrations marking the Canada-China Year of Tourism; and a key stop for the federal tourism mission led by federal Minister of Small Business and Tourism Bardish Chagger aimed at garnering interest for Canada in the world’s largest tourism market.

The traditional Canada Day Fair was organized by the Canadian China Business Council. With several pavilions, compelling visuals and knowledgeable and passionate ambassadors, it highlighted the best Canada has to offer. Included in its showcase, the NWT’s story caught the eyes of countless attendees.

Minister Schumann is heading the NWT delegation which includes representatives and members of NWT Tourism — the territory’s destination marketing organization.

He used the opportunity to answer questions from media representatives on everything from NWT diamonds to the new Inuvik to Tuk highway; before cutting into an obligatory birthday cake – albeit one week early.

Minister Schumann also joined Minister Chagger and Canada’s Ambassador to China John McCallum in meetings designed to build relationships, and encourage tourism investment in Canada.

The Canada-China Tourism Mission continues through June 28.
