Yellowknife-area campgrounds were all-but-full for the final long weekend of the summer with only tent pads open at Prelude, Reid and Fred Henne Campgrounds.
Use Areas were bustling with local families and tourists enjoying a variety of programs including painting workshops, live music, face painting, storytelling, and canoe rides.
At the Fred Henne Territorial Park Campground, over 35 campsites were decorated specifically for the weekend as campers vied for the second annual Labour Day Coolest Camper Award. Campsite decorations were evaluated for imagination, decorations and themes.
In the end it was the Bartlett family from Yellowknife that went home as the Coolest Campers. In addition to the Coolest Camper title, over 200 subsidiary prizes were distributed and free bannock and white fish was available at the gatehouse all weekend.
