Holiday shoppers flocked to Yellowknife’s Multiplex last weekend for the first annual Shop YK Tradeshow.  For the inaugural event, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s North Slave Office provided support for eight artists to profile their work.

In the process, the office welcomed three new registrants to the NWT Arts Program.

The artists represented several genres and their work included traditional crafts, painting, carvings, fashion and accessories, jewelry, and glassware.

NWT Arts is a free program that promotes local artists, increases customer-awareness, and provides buyers of NWT art products with a reliable and easily-recognized mark of authenticity.

The #ShopYK tradeshow was a joint-initiative of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce and the City of Yellowknife.  ITI recognizes the importance that local spending can have on NWT businesses, entrepreneurs and the economy.

Providing support for artists is one of the ways that the Department is investing in an economically diverse territory.
