Funding for this year’s MIP was boosted from $400,000 to $1 million and applicable funding levels were raised accordingly. Prospectors can now apply for $25,000 (up from $15,000) and exploration companies can apply for $200,000 (up from $100,000), up to 50% of eligible expenses.

The purpose of the program is to provide funding for prospectors and exploration companies who propose new projects or are already carrying out mineral exploration work in the NWT.

The direct benefits of mining account for over one-quarter of the NWT’s GDP and is the largest private sector employer in the territory. The increased funding for the program reflects the Government of the Northwest Territories’ commitment to attracting business, investment and exploration to build a strong future for this important sector.
