As both Minister of Industry Tourism and Investment and Infrastructure, Mr.  Schumann led and supported public discussions on: the need for clean reliable and affordable energy in northern communities; and the need to develop infrastructure to unlock the North’s resource development potential.

Speaking to a presentation on Canada’s competitiveness in the energy and mining sectors, the Minister highlighted the need for collaboration between provinces and territories to restore Canada’s leadership and attractiveness to mining and petroleum investment.

In a closed working session, Canada’s Energy and Mines Ministers also advanced their work, launched in March of this year, to develop a Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan.

Indigenous participation in the development of this plan will be crucial to its success. Minister Schumann noted to his colleagues that the Northwest Territories can be a model for Indigenous engagement in both the energy and mines sectors.
