As vacation season continues across the Northwest Territories (NWT), Northerners young-and-old are flocking to their favourite swimming spots across the territory. It's an essential time to take pause and consider the importance of water safety.

Each year, the Government of the Northwest Territories joins public agencies across the country to work with the Lifesaving Society for National Drowning Prevention Week to build awareness and educate the public on practices to stay safe in the water.

This year, National Drowning Prevention Week runs July 17-23 and will include public outreach designed to provide specific tools for residents and visitors to use at NWT parks and lakes.
