Bouchra, who hails from Morocco, left her homeland in 1991 and moved to Canada. Bouchra initially chose to settle in Montreal, where she spent many years. However, in 2016, she finally decided to join her brother in Yellowknife, because “there are a lot more job opportunities in the NWT.”

“I tried working for a number of employers, but it didn’t pan out. The opportunity to go into business for myself was a no-brainer for me. I make my own decisions, I shoulder the consequences and, above all, I’m doing something that I love. In August 2019, I opened BB’s kiosk, where I provide catering and restaurant services.”

Challenges:

“All the ins and outs of management. I’m doing quite well, thanks to the support of the CDÉTNO, which has really been helping me to understand things and offering guidance in decision making.”

Soft spot:

“I really love Yellowknife, as it’s a city full of opportunities, compared to other places I’ve lived in Canada.”

Next steps:

“I want to expand in the restaurant business and above all attract more customers.”

Words of advice:

“Go for it! There are a lot of opportunities. Don’t be afraid of failing. Learn from failure and keep moving forward. Passion is the key to success!”
