Ghyslain is 29 and hails from Angers, France.  He came to Canada under the Working Holiday Program in April 2014 and became a permanent resident in April 2018.

“A few years back, after I got my working holiday visa, I decided to go on a road trip and hitchhike on Canada’s east and west coasts.  After that, I went to see the Northern Lights… in Yellowknife, of course! I was supposed to stay just for a week at first. However, I’m still here and about to marry a Canadian gal!”

“Yellowknife is an easy place to find a job. I work for Community Living, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities enter the labour market so they can live more independently.”

Challenges:

“My hope is for every young person and adult to be able to find a job in Yellowknife! I know it’s a process, but I’m confident!”

Soft spot:

“The Northern Lights for sure! I also love winter. The people are so warm and welcoming, like a family.”

Next steps:

“Getting married, of course. Start the citizenship process and buy a house.”

Words of advice:

“I encourage everyone who wants to emigrate to Canada to do so. Go for it!”
