Few holders of working holiday visas choose to spend their time in Canada in the Northwest Territories. Mélissa is an exception.

She and her partner Romain arrived in Yellowknife in mid-winter and have been exploring this corner of the globe, which they find fascinating, ever since.

Celebrating Francophone Immigration Week: A Guest Series With the CDÉTNO

“My partner and I had been dreaming of coming to live in Canada—especially Northern Canada—for three years. We love wide open spaces and the winter, so the Northwest Territories seemed like the perfect choice for us and our dog Fargo.

We were in Sweden during the winter of 2017 when I saw that the CDÉTNO website had a job posting that was a perfect match for me: an administrative and tourism agent at the Collège nordique francophone. I applied, and three weeks later, I arrived in Yellowknife to start my new life. My partner and dog joined me a month later.

Yellowknife is an open-minded city full of possibilities. We even found a house in town where we’ll be able to keep our four sled dogs.

We’re finally living our Canadian dream, and this is just the beginning!”
