This is National Mining Week (May 10-14, 2021). It gives Canadians the opportunity to learn about Canada’s minerals industry as a sustainable and responsible supplier of the minerals and metals needed to build a clean, inclusive economy that benefits all Canadians.

Since 1935, the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has been the national voice of the Canadian mining industry. In our North, the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines provide leadership on and advocate for, responsible and sustainable mineral exploration and development.

Canadian mining companies operate in more than 100 countries, creating jobs and providing social and economic opportunities to developing countries; and providing mineral expertise, new technologies, schools and hospitals around the world.

Mining has been the key economic driver in the north for over 80 years.

In the NWT, renewed exploration activity is needed to restore levels of investment, partnership, employment and growth in the NWT’s economy. The GNWT’s Mandate includes a commitment to Increase resource exploration and development.
