A new guide is making it easier than ever to learn about tourism careers in the Northwest Territories’ (NWT).

A Guide to Tourism Careers in the Northwest Territories is strongly representative of the NWT and includes profiles on local tourism and hospitality professionals from communities across the territory. From public relations to fishing guides, to chefs and lodge owners, the guide outlines education requirements, programs and training for each career path.

The project was a collaboration led by the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) with involvement by Education, Culture and Employment; Aurora College and NWT Tourism. To better develop the NWT’s tourism labour force, the working group determined that the stories and familiar faces of community members was an exciting approach to engage youth.

Building capacity and skills among NWT residents, and youth in particular, is an objective of Tourism 2020 and helps to build a foundation for the growth of community tourism. ITI is committed to developing a strong labour force to support the growing tourism sector.
