Craft Year 2020 is a national initiative of the Canadian Crafts Federation.  It’s the continuation of a celebration that happens every five years in which craft councils across Canada host activities as part of a year-long celebration of craft.

This year, across Canada exhibitions, workshops and studio tours are happening online or in smaller groups.

In the NWT, Crafted NWT 2020 is taking place from September 20th until October 4th with a variety of activities across the NWT.

ITI is pleased to co-sponsor this event through NWT Arts along with the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (ECE) and partners, Down to Earth Gallery, and the newly formed Craft Council of NWT.

Some of the events planned for Crafted NWT 2020 will include:

  • Three crafting workshops sponsored by NWT Arts (ITI) and hosted at Down to Earth Gallery.
  • A variety of Pecha Kucha presentations about craft coordinated by Craft Council of NWT and posted to the Facebook event page.
  • A museum exhibit about the ‘stories of craft’ will open at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre September 24th and remain open until March 2021. A video tour of the display will be available by October 4thon the Craft Council of NWT Facebook page.
  • The Craft Council of NWT together with GNWT-ECE will host a series of workshops related to the craft of fishing and various other fish related activities.
