The NWT Manufacturers Association met in Yellowknife on November 26, 2018 to discuss the future of Made in the NWT products.

The general meeting was attended by Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Wally Schumann and GNWT officials.

Though many items were discussed, the highpoint of the meeting was a presentation on the Draft Manufacturing Strategy from Dave Nightingale, Director of Business Support & Trade.

Nightingale provided an overview of the Strategy, highlighting the key actions being proposed to support NWT’s manufacturing sector. The interactive session encouraged attendees to ask questions and discuss the key elements of the Strategy.

It was an opportunity for those who would be most affected by a new strategy to see where the GNWT took their initial feedback, and have their say on the final document.

The group also benefited from the input of Mr. Mathew Wilson, Senior Vice President of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, an expert in the manufacturing industry in Canada and the author of a number of manufacturing strategies and action plans in Canada.

The NWT Manufacturing Strategy is intended to support the efforts of NWT manufacturers and to grow and further diversify the economy in the NWT.
