Canada Day is synonymous with parades, BBQs and community gatherings, but it’s also a very special day for new Canadians across the country as they prepare for, or celebrate the anniversary of, their Canadian citizenship ceremonies.

One newcomer to Yellowknife, Frank Fu, is still a few years away from his Canadian Citizenship ceremony, but he is already contributing to the Yellowknife business community.

Frank came to the NWT from China in October 2019 through the Northwest Territories Nominee Program’s Business Stream.  With 25 years’ experience in the IT industry, he has invested his specialized skills (and finances) to establish a new company in Yellowknife.

“Intellibroad” specializes in high-tech security systems that can compute and retain analytics such as facial recognition or heat body temperatures. It is technology that Frank feels will have great implications for the post-Covid-19 era.

Prior to arriving in Yellowknife, Frank admits he had real trepidations about starting a business in an unfamiliar place.  But once accepted into the business stream of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP), he says he has received the service and support he needed to realize his dream of owning and operating a business in Canada.

“The Entrepreneur Business stream of the NWT Nominee Program provides clear and effective information for individuals like me who want to immigrate to the NWT,” he says.

“Thanks to the availability of information on websites and through emails, promotional materials, etc., start-up companies like mine can to get to work as soon as possible. Moreover, I have found the individuals that I have dealt with to be enthusiastic and helpful which makes me feel welcome and confident to operate.”

Originally, Frank was hoping to have had his wife and children join him by now, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic; they have not arrived yet. Frank is looking forward to the day when he can share his new life in the NWT with his wife and children.
