Reservations for NWT campgrounds officially opened last week and to no one’s surprise, it’s promising to be a busy summer for NWT Parks.

By the end of the first week, 3763 reservations had been booked – an increase of 15% from last year’s record number of overnight stays by NWT residents. 5704 visits were made to the NWT Parks campground reservation portal generating more than 110,476 page views.

To improve performance on the GNWT’s online reservation system, bookings for campgrounds were opened in phases.

1341 bookings were received Friday, May 7 for the Fred Henne campground alone, and bookings at all other campgrounds are also up 16% over last season.

For every booking of five consecutive overnights, a coupon for one free night of camping was generated automatically. 1829 Coupons were issued last week.

In a regular year, Northwest Territories Parks draw visitors from around the world. In 2019 35,249 overnight campers were welcomed in our spectacular parks.

In 2020, a total 23,105 overnight campers stayed in NWT Parks, representing a 46% increase of NWT residents staying in parks over the 2019 season.
