The Northwest Territories’ (NWT) lakes, rivers and rapids are often touted as world-class for canoeing and kayaking; and now new episodes of PowerBoat Television are shining a whole new light on the territory’s waterways.

Cast and crew travelled to the NWT and filmed expeditions and adventures around Hay River and Yellowknife. The footage will be featured in two upcoming episodes on Global TV:

  • Saturday, January 20th at 9pm: Hay River

This episode features the territory’s pristine wilderness as the crew shoots up the Hay River to Louise Falls by jet boat before heading across Great Slave Lake to the mouth of the Mackenzie River for monster Pike fishing.

  • Saturday, March 17 at 9pm: Yellowknife

Powerboat Television heads to Yellowknife next to explore the north shore of Great Slave Lake. The crew visits the Great Slave Yacht Club – the most northern in the country, and takes in some fishing tours.

The episodes were filmed last summer – supported, in part, by Northwest Territories Tourism, the Department of Industry Tourism and Investment and its Film Commission.

Diversifying the NWT’s tourism products and packages - and finding new and innovative ways to promote them - is a key part of developing the new markets that will ensure the continued growth of tourism in the NWT.

The GNWT’s investment in tourism is guided by Tourism 2020 which set an overall goal of increasing the value of the tourism industry to $207 million annually by 2021.
