The hard work and dedication of a Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) employee was recognized with the territorial public service’s highest honour.

Francois Rossouw, Fur Marketing Coordinator with the Department of ITI’s Traditional Economy Division, accepted the Premier’s Award for Excellence from Premier Bob McLeod on June 15.

The award recognizes the outstanding achievement of individual Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) employees or teams of GNWT employees who continue to strive for excellence, best practice management and improvements in the workplace.

Francois has worked diligently over many years to foster growth in the traditional economy through the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur program, travelling to communities across the Northwest Territories to deliver support programming and representing the interests of the territory’s fur sector abroad.

Francois is as comfortable on the trap line as he is in the showrooms and boardrooms around the world.  His passion for fur extends from the trapper to the final end user.  He is particularly keen about working with youth and young trappers ensuring they understand, appreciate and are respectful of the sector and what it has to offer.

The Department of ITI wishes to thank Francois for his dedication to the work he does each day in service of all peoples of the Northwest Territories.
