Canadian Agricultural Partnership: Backgrounder
The Canadian Agriculture Partnership will pick up where Growing Forward 2 left off, with the GNWT matching federal funds provided through the partnership.
The GNWT-Canada partnership will see $6.1 million invested in the NWT’s agriculture sector over five years to set a solid foundation for food production in the territory.
Under the partnership, there will be three areas of focus
- Growing trade and expanding markets
- Innovative and sustainable sector growth
- Supporting sector diversity and dynamism
ITI leads the implementation of the NWT’s Agriculture Strategy released last March.
The development of the NWT agriculture sector is a component of the GNWT’s economic development agenda.
The demand for safe, affordable, locally grown food choices will create business and entrepreneurial opportunities that will work to strengthen and diversify the NWT’s economy overall.
