Employees from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) led a successful, fun, and informative geology hike last week.

With 33 attendees, the event was a rousing success.

The walk was led by Karen Gochnauer, a District Geologist with the Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS), and Pamela Strand, Director of ITI’s Mineral Resources Division.  Over the two-and-a-half hour walk, attendees learned about numerous geological principles and formations.

Hikers also left with some exciting takeaways, including books of Mica Crystals and geology guides for Cameron Falls and Frame Lake Trails.

The event came as part of the fun, informative, family-friendly Mining Week events in Yellowknife designed to celebrate the history of mineral exploration and its contributions to the Northwest Territories.
